I went to investigate the guest cabin.

What I found was remarkable. The space was stacked floor to ceiling — solar panels, a Bimini, courtesy flags, kayak pedals. And then, tucked in among the sailing gear: an ice cream maker, a pasta maker, and what I can only describe as the complete KitchenAid catalogue.

Adriana, it turns out, is a boat with hidden depths.

Armed with vinegar solution, microfiber cloths, and a generous supply of paper towels, we worked through every surface. By mid-morning, everything was bright and shining.

Lunch in the Cockpit

Our first lunch on board, in the cockpit, in the sun. It became clear immediately that this would not be a one-round affair. The algae had made themselves completely at home. Green soap, water, and a good deal of elbow grease are the foundation. It is going to take several sessions before the teak looks the way it should.

More rounds will follow. The teak knows what’s coming.

Piet and the Gas

Piet, meanwhile, focused on something altogether more serious: the gas installation. It needs a complete overhaul — a job for a certified expert, not a DIY afternoon.

For me, this is the item on the list that sits heaviest. Gas on a boat demands respect. And yet it is essential, because good food makes the sailing life. They say a well-fed crew is a happy crew. We intend to eat well.

For now, the microwave has quietly stepped in as our galley stand-in. It is doing a fine job. We are grateful it exists.

But the gas will be sorted. Properly.

We are on our way home now. Work is calling, and Breskens will have to be patient a little longer.

We will be back soon.

Piet & Ilse

The forecast was clear: sunshine, mild temperatures, a proper spring day.
